ID Of Pilot Killed In Crash Expected Sunday

AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) ― Authorities expect to release the name today of the pilot killed in a single-engine plane crash near Austin, Minnesota.

The Mower County Sheriff's Department found the plane about 9 a.m. yesterday. The pilot's name has not yet been released. An FAA spokeswoman says investigators believe the pilot was the only person on the plane.

The plane was flying from New Richmond, Wisconsin, to Fulton, Missouri, with a planned stop in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The FAA last had contact with the pilot at about 12:50 a.m yesterday when the plane was flying over the Rochester area.

A search started at about 2 a.m. yesterday.

The spokeswoman says there's no initial indication of what caused the crash, but the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will both investigate.
