Crocodile Owner Says He'll Get His Pet Out Of Town

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) ― A Fergus Falls, Minn. man says his pet crocodile, Billy, isn't dangerous, but he'll comply with a police order to move the 3-foot reptile out of town.

Thirty-seven-year-old Marvin Weinrich Jr. says he bought the animal in 1994 from a Fergus Falls pet store, which in turn got it from a game farm.

He says Billy isn't dangerous. In 15 years, Weinrich says he's only been bitten once. The only other incident was when Billy chomped down on the tail of a visiting cat.

Nonetheless, the city code prohibits the ownership of a handful of animals, including inherently dangerous reptiles, including crocodiles.

An anonymous tipster told police about Billy. When officers checked it out on Monday, they told Weinrich the dwarf caiman crocodile had to go.

Weinrich says that within the week, Billy will move to the home of family friends out in the country.
