Man Accused Of Sexual Activity With 12-Year-Old

(WCCO) A 36-year-old Burnsville man is accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl while he was working as her personal care attendent in 2005.

Earl Christopher Choate is in custody after the now 16-year-old reported to police that she had a sexual relationship with Choate from 2005 to 2006. The young girl said she was diagnosed with several conditions, making her eligible for a personal care attendant.

During this time, Choate and the girl engaged in sexual activity at Choate's apartment and at several hotels in Hennepin County. The girl told police Choate would also occasionally video tape them having sex. She said the two would engage in sexual activity several times a week, sometimes with the use of sexual devices.

Choate would also send the girl sexually suggestive notes and cards during this time, she said.

According to police, the family hired Choate as the personal care attendant because he was a family friend. Choate was hired to help the then 12-year-old Monday through Friday and occasionally on Saturdays.

Police executed a search warrant at Choate's current address in Dakota County and found numerous notes and cards from the victim, several videos and a sexual device.

Officers arrested Choate, who admitted to having a sexual relationship with the victim.
