Woman Killed After Leaving Car In Crash Identified

FOREST LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) ― A pedestrian was killed in a fatal accident on Interstate 35W in Forest Lake, Minn. Saturday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Michelle Bartell, 45, slid off the road to avoid a car that had rolled on its roof and was blocking the northbound lanes on I-35W.

According to the state patrol, Bartell, of Cedar, Minn., was with Maria Wilson, 43, of Pine City who also spun off the road. The two went to check on William Franks, 58, of Chaska, who rolled his vehicle over.

As Bartell and Wilson left their vehicles, Bartell was hit by Tirrell Corgard, 70, of Roseville.

Roads were icy at the time of the accident. Franks suffered minor injuries.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office and State Patrol are investigating.

"What we really want to get out to the public is that the freeway is an incredibly dangerous place all the time, especially when roadways are slippery like they were this morning. If you're involved in a crash or you go off the road or your vehicle spins out, stay in your car and wear your seat belt. Call 911, we'll be glad to get there as fast as we can to help. We don't want people walking around on the freeway," said Lt. Matt Langer with the Minnesota State Patrol.
