Mega-Bargains Follow U.S. Women's Open

EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) ― Sometimes you can find bargains in bizarre places. On Monday five dozen smart shoppers arrived before the doors even opened for a sale at Interlachen Country Club. Now that the U.S. Women's Open is over, there are discounts on golf goodies, plants and even plasma TV's.

"Oh my gosh incredible prices for those begonias," said Kelly Amighi, shopper. "These potted plants are usually $15 and here they sell for $2."

Amighi attended the tourney and now she's buying what was once used to decorate the grounds. She agreed that the next time she attended a tournament, she'll likely eye the flowers used for decorations.

"I will, I never knew about this, definitely yeah," said Amighi.

Bachmann's Nursery used seven semi truckloads full of greenery and flowers at the championship. What took them five days to install will leave within hours from the sale.

"These are hydrangeas, petunias, begonias, and I'm not even sure what that is," said one shopper as she looked at her stack of sale items.

Nursery stock, even trees, are priced below wholesale. An enormous container garden might sell for $175-dollars retail but they are just $75-dollars at the tournament sale.

Inside the merchandise tent everything was 50 percent off. One hundred TV's used at the tournament are discounted. A 26-inch Toshiba LCD television was $70-off the sticker price. Best Buy is coordinating the sale of television.

For neighbors who put up with extra traffic all week, it was time to reap the rewards of having a big event in their backyard.

"Two dollars for this? I'm going to get another one," said Carolyn French, as she picked up more potted flowers.

Monday was the last day for this sale but the next time you attend an event, ask about the clearance sales.
