MN Officer Killed In 1936 Added To D.C. Memorial

MARSHALL, Minn. (AP) ― The name of a former rural Minnesota town marshal will be one of 358 dedicated on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

Arnold Borson was shot more than 70 years ago while attempting to prevent a robbery in the southwestern Minnesota town of Ghent. He died a few days later.

Two other Minnesota law enforcement officers will be honored at a vigil Tuesday evening. Mark Bedard of the Minneapolis Park Police and Deputy Scott Rogers of the Clay County Sheriff's Office both died while on duty.

At Tuesday's ceremony, U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey will deliver the keynote address and lead the lighting of candles and reading fallen officers' names.
