Motorized Lounge Chair eBay Auction Halted

PROCTOR, Minn. (WCCO) ― The motorized lounge chair confiscated by police after a Minnesota man drove it while intoxicated is now the subject of an eBay controversy.

Police in Proctor, Minn. snatched the chair away from Dennis LeRoy Anderson, 62, after he was found driving it around with a blood alcohol content of 0.29 percent, more than three times the legal limit.

Anderson crashed the chair into a parked vehicle during the August 2008 incident. He has since pleaded guilty to driving drunk.

The chair -- which comes complete with a sound system, headlights and a parachute and can zoom up to 20 miles per hour -- was put up for auction on eBay.

Bids over the weekend soared up to more than $40,000.

But those bids came to a crashing halt because police incorrectly advertised the retrofitted chair as a La-Z-Boy, a registered trademark. The company filed a complaint about the use of their name.

The auction has started once again and continues until Thursday. The opening bid was $500, and as of Tuesday morning, the top bid was $2,550.
