MnDOT Asks Drivers To Stay Alert After Fatal Crash
ANOKA, Minn. (WCCO) ―
An SUV driver died Tuesday morning after rear ending a Minnesota
Department of Transportation truck in Anoka, Minn. late Monday evening.
The State Patrol Web site identified the driver of the SUV as 20-year-old Jared Barnes of New Brighton, Minn.
The accident happened on westbound Highway 10 near Ferry Street at about 10:30 p.m.
Barnes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Investigators said it appeared the SUV driver was speeding when it hit the MnDOT arrow truck, which was stopped on the left side of the road and partially in the left lane.
The MnDOT truck driver, 49-year-old Kelly Cramer, was not significantly injured, but the accident still marks a grim record for construction accidents in the Twin Cities. This incident marks the second fatal crash in connection with construction equipment in one week.
Last Thursday, a construction foreman holding a stop sign died when he was struck on Highway 212.
MnDOT authorities said the accidents serve as an important reminder to drivers of the importance of keeping alert in construction zones, which are going to be profuse throughout the summer months.
Highway 10 was temporarily closed while crews cleaned up the scene.
