Anoka Police are searching for a man who was last seen leaving a friend's house on Friday night.
According to friends, 24-year-old Jelani Brinson didn't show up for work on Saturday or to babysit his daughter. They said he was last seen leaving an Anoka house at about 10 p.m. Friday.
"He said he was going to bring her somewhere, pick her up somewhere. I've not once had him not do that. Where he hasn't communicated to me that he couldn't do it," said Dena Anderson, Brinson's girlfriend.
After learning that he was missing, friends searched and found both of Brinson's shoes and his hat across the street from the Anoka home, on the other side of the neighbor's fence.
Friends describe Brinson as an African American, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black hoodie and blue jeans. His hair was braided in cornrows.
On Sunday evening, friends and police searched the area where he was last seen. Police dogs were used to follow his scent.
At one point on Saturday afternoon, Brinson's cell phone was turned off, but police said they did get a hit on his cell phone in Cologne, Minn. in Carver County that same night. Police are not elaborating on that cell phone hit.
Police did say a missing person case that involves an adult is tough to investigate but they're looking into Brinson's case because the family says this is just strange behavior for Brinson.
"It is the family's concern that possibly something has happened to him but we don't have any information, like any information that would lead us to believe he was a victim of a crime. And the people that were near and around him say he didn't make any threats that he was going to harm himself," said Anoka Police Chief Phil Johanson.
"It's totally unlike my son to not, you know, if I call, he will call me back. Even if I don't leave a message, if he sees that my numbers come up he's always called me back," said Alyce Hamilton, Brinson's mother.
Anyone with information or anyone who has seen Brinson is asked to call the Anoka Police Department at 763-576-2800.
