Is Minn. Still Wealthy, Healthy? Census Will Say

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Fresh information on Minnesota's status as one of the country's wealthiest and healthiest states is coming Tuesday.

The U.S. Census Bureau will release its annual report on income, poverty and health insurance coverage across the nation, based on the 2007 population survey.

Last year's report showed that Minnesota had the 10th highest median household income, the eight lowest rate of poverty and ninth lowest rate of child poverty. But the report also showed no meaningful increases in income from 2005 to 2006, and rates of health insurance were slipping.

Advocates for the poor say the 2007 figures will show how the state was faring before the latest economic downturn, which didn't start until early 2008.
