Minnesotans Enjoy Reaching For A Lighter Jacket

(WCCO) Day after day, subzero temperatures were really taking its toll on even the heartiest Minnesotans' mood.

Friday, milder weather lifted spirits.

"It's uplifting. This has been a very frustrating winter," said St. Paul resident Denice Wax.

"It is very refreshing because January was really terrible," said White Bear Lake resident Donald Yeeyick.

Finally, it was a day fit for man and beast.

"It's like a heat wave compared to what we've had before. It's just great. I love it," said University of Minnesota student Katie Leivan

No hat and no gloves were no problem.

"Who needs a coat? It's so sunny," said a University of Minnesota student.

The sunshine was a golden glow to warms the skin and soul.

"Everybody's in a happy mood, the sun is shining," said Wax.

"I'm so happy with it right now. I'm been so tired of being inside all the time," said Leivan.

So were moms and children.

"We saw the forecast earlier this week, so we decided to call everyone and go to the zoo 'cause it was going to be above 35 and it is beautiful. We're having a great time," said Minneapolis resident Julie Wessman.

Plenty of parents jumped at the chance to finally get outsize at the zoo to cure the cabin fever, which set in during the frigid days.

"We just stay inside, and that's a nightmare. They have no place to get their energy out."

"It's wonderful. It's just nice to be out. The sun is bright. It's nice to be out in mild temperatures and we can finally get out of the house," said Yeeyick.

Perhaps the best thing about a beautiful 40-degree day in February is that it's a reminder of the even more glorious and greener days to come.
