MN Hiker Recovers From 60-Foot Fall In China

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Matt Honson survived a long fall into a ravine while hiking in China. He has come a long way since his fall in January and he is now looking forward to a big honor, throwing out the first pitch at Monday's Twin's game.

"I have no pain, I'm pretty much back to normal, running trying to do pushups trying to get back in shape after a few months in a hospital bed," said Honson.

Honson says after falling 60 feet face first, he blacked out. He only remembers the rough ride by donkey.

"The farmers came right to me during my accident they got me back up on the donkey and rode me out there," said Honson.

Hewas carried by donkey for 45 minutes and then by ambulance for two hours to Li-Jang. He spent two days at a small make shift hospital trying to come up with enough credit cards to charge $70,000 they needed to fly him to Hong Kong for help.

Although his physical injuries took some time to heal, he said his mental and spiritual recovery were almost instant.

"I kind of lost a lot of faith in people until this happened and now its like my faith in people has been restored," said Honson.

He says countless people donated money to help pay his medical bills and many others kept him in prayer.

Since the accident, he says he has a better appreciaton for life.

"Sometimes I lay in bed and I'd be like praying like why did this happen but at the same time thank you for letting me be apart of this miracle," said Honson.

Hanson cannot see out of his right eye but what he can see is why he went through what he did.

"God is not done working and its amazing to be a part of that I can always look back at that and say thank you," said Honson.

He says he plans to return to Bethel University where he will study to become a youth pastor.
