Minnesota lawmakers hope to accelerate consideration of a major construction finance bill next year in hopes of putting projects into action faster.
House Capital Investment Committee Chairwoman Alice Hausman said Monday her goal is to approve the legislation in February, at the start of the 2010 session. Usually the bonding bill gets shoved to the end of session.
Hausman, a St. Paul Democrat, said she expects to push a proposal in the $1 billion range and to focus on public projects where work can start soon after bonds are sold.
A top budget adviser to Gov. Tim Pawlenty said the administration proposal would probably top out at $725 million.
Minnesota has $1.5 billion in previously authorized projects that are presently in limbo.
