3 Repeat Winners At Minn. Book Awards

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Authors in eight categories and a writer whose book was most popular among readers are among winners of this year's Minnesota Book Awards.

It's a repeat honor for three of the authors.

University of Minnesota professor Patricia Hampl of St. Paul won in the memoir/creative nonfiction category for her memoir, "The Florist's Daughter." Hampl has prior awards from 1988 and 2001.

Bemidji-based Will Weaver won his second Book Award, this time for his teen novel "Defect". His first win was in 1989.

William Kent Krueger of St. Paul won the genre fiction award for the second year in a row for novels in the same series. His Cork O'Connor thriller "Thunder Bay" won this year, and he won last year for "Copper River."

Here are the other winners:

-- Lynne Jonell in children's literature for "Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat";

-- Charles Baxter in general nonfiction for "The Art of Subtext: Beyond Plot";

-- Doug Hoverson in the Minnesota category for "Land of Amber Waters: The History of Brewing in Minnesota";

-- Wang Ping in the novel/short story catetory for "The Last Communist Virgin";

-- Deborah Keenan in poetry for "Willow Room, Green Door";

-- and Jill Kalz won the readers' choice award for her book, "Farmer Cap".

The ceremony also featured other awards, and a brief tribute to late Minnesota authors Carol Bly and Jon Hassler.
