They missed Thanksgiving, but they'll be home for Christmas. Wednesday, about 30 members of the Minnesota Air National Guard made the long trip home from Afghanistan.
When the huge C-130 cargo aircraft to arrived, family and friends rushed to greet the men and women they've missed so much.
For many, it was their fourth or fifth time in Afghanistan.
Hugs and kisses were welcome after serving in the combat zone. The airmen were responsible for fixing cargo planes and shuffling troops around in the "hot zone." It was a dangerous assignment.
"It's been hard, it's been a hard couple of months," said one military wife.
Airman Chris Berk says he especially missed his young daughter.
"She got mad at me, she wouldn't talk to me," he said. Then, to his daughter, "Weren't cha?"
Tech Sergeant Steve Lynch is also glad to be back. His family worried about his safety when he was gone.
"I know he's home and I know he's safe," said Marty Lynch. "We miss him when he's gone, so we're just glad to have him home."
More than 300 members of the Minnesota Air National guard have been deployed to the Middle East since the fall.
