Copper Pipes May Be To Blame For House Explosion

(WCCO) Police now have a possible cause for a home explosion in Minneapolis -- copper pipes were cut from the house, according to Shawn McKenna with Minneapolis Police Department.

He said fire investigators noticed that pipes were cut in the basement in the furnace area.

McKenna said they have reason to believe that the same suspects were also in the neighboring home on 3210 Colfax because that front door was kicked in and there was copper piping laying right inside the neighboring house.

Police said the thieves may have fled from that house when the other house exploded.

The pipe was recovered and is being examined. No arrests have been made.

All the homes were vacant at the time.
