Police: Burglar Takes 4 Hostage In SWAT Standoff

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― A burglary attempt in Minneapolis resulted in a standoff with a SWAT team at a separate location, according to police.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at a residence at about 5 a.m on the 3100 block of 2nd Avenue South. An hour later, they were dispatched to a townhome on the 300 block of 25th Street East.

Police said the suspect from the earlier burglary had taken two adult females and two children hostage inside the townhome.

Because the burglar had a history of firing a weapon, and because officers were unable to establish contact with the suspect, the SWAT team was called in.

Both adults and both children were allowed out of the townhome unharmed.

After five hours, the suspect, a 30-year-old man, surrendered without incident and was arrested for suspicion of aggravated assault and burglary.
