Metro Transit Workers To Vote On Contract Offer

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― Twin Cities bus and train drivers will vote on whether to accept a new contract offer from the Metropolitan Council.

Details of the offer are not being released, but Michelle Sommers, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005, says it addresses major issues.

The union's executive committee will offer its recommendation Sunday on whether union members should accept or reject the proposal. The 2,200-member union meets Sunday at the Minneapolis Convention Center to vote on the offer, with voting to continue Monday.

In 2004, Metro Transit bus drivers and other workers were on strike for six weeks.
