An attempt to put a temporary halt to the construction of so-called "McMansions" in Edina failed Tuesday night.
The Edina City Council discussed the moratorium proposal late into the evening, but none of the council members called a motion to put the proposal to a vote.
The proposal would have only put a moratorium on builders tearing down existing homes. Homes already under construction would not have been affected.
Among the residents arguing against the construction of the super-sized homes was Cal Vaubel.
"I look out our side windows and it's a monster house," Vaubel said, referring to the next door house's 5,400 square feet, more than three times the size of the house that used to sit on the lot.
While some Edina residents have argued against "McMansions," others have said they increase property values.
