Mother Of Matthew Shepard To Speak At Loring Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― The mother of Matthew Shepard, who was beaten 10 years ago in a Wyoming hate crime, will be in Minneapolis to mark the anniversary.

Shepard was the victim of an anti-gay hate crime. He was beaten and tied to a fence post in 1998.

Judy Shepard will speak at a ceremony scheduled to be held at Loring Park in Minneapolis beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday. A candlelight vigil will be held.

The event is free and open to the public. Also, the Woman's Club of Minneapolis will hold a reading of "The Laramie Project," a play written about the aftermath of Shepard's murder.
