Neighbors Pay Respects To Woman Hit By Ambulance

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― Neighbors and complete strangers remember a 79-year-old woman run over and killed by an ambulance in St. Paul.

Kelsey Gerlach and Amanda Crotinger did not know Kuehn, but they were there when the woman walked into the path of an ambulance that was backing up in the alley behind her home.

"They couldn't have done anything to ... She just, they didn't see her, she just came out of nowhere," said Gerlach.

Both said they will never forget what they saw and what they say they didn't hear.

"The lights weren't even going off on the paramedic unit and we didn't hear it beep, the beep that it usually makes when it backs up, nobody heard it," said Crotinger.

Police said the incident is under investigation and cannot comment until that investigation is complete.

The accident happened Saturday evening in the parking lot of the Walgreens near Randolph and Snelling Avenues in St. Paul.

The ambulance was coming to the aid of the driver of a car that went crashing through a fence. Police said the ambulance was backing down the alley to help when tragedy struck.

All who knew Kuehn said she was very independent, she loved to smile and she loved animals. She leaves behind a loving daughter and a devoted pet, Ashley.
