Lost Hunter Found With Faint Cell Phone Signal
QUIRING TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) ―
A lost hunter who wasn't wearing any shoes and socks was found overnight after authorities were able to track him down because of his cell phone signal.
According to Beltrami County, at about 3:30 a.m. dispatch received a faint cell phone call from a hunter reporting that he was lost in the woods in Quiring Township.
The hunter, identified as 44-year-old Rowdy Allen Schipper, told dispatch that he lost his shoes and socks and was suffering from severe hypothermia.
The Beltrami County Dispatch was able to keep Schipper on the phone long enough to use his cell phone signal to find his general location.
Beltrami County Sheriff's Deputies, members of the Kelliher Fire Department and Blackduck Ambulance Service responded to the scene, and neighbors in the area also helped search for Schipper.
Deputies, with the help of K-9 Vosco, located Schipper not long after receiving his call. He was transported to an area hospital and is currently being treated for frostbite and severe hypothermia.
