1st Ethanol 'Blender Pumps' Open In Ortonville
Ortonville, Minn. (AP) ―
Minnesota's first ethanol 'blender pumps' have opened in Ortonville.
The pumps allow motorists to choose an ethanol blend ranging from E-85, which is 85 percent ethanol, down to the legally mandated E-Ten. All gasoline sold in Minnesota must contain at least ten percent ethanol.
Mel Domine of Border States Cooperative said they put the blender pumps in last year to handle E-85, but couldn't use them to their full capability until the state's rules changed. They're already in use in South Dakota.
Consumers can use the pumps to choose E-85, E-50, E-30, E-20 and the standard E-10 blend. However, gas containing more than ten percent ethanol should only be used in flex-fuel vehicles.
Border States Cooperative put the pumps into operation last week and will hold grand opening ceremonies Thursday.
