Libertarian Party Strips Jeffers Of Endorsement

St. Paul (AP) ― The Libertarian Party has withdrawn its endorsement of a Minneapolis bar owner for governor.

The party withdrew its support for Sue Jeffers after she decided to challenge Gov. Tim Pawlenty in a Republican Party primary in September, Libertarian Party chairwoman Lee Brennise said in a news release Wednesday. The party's bylaws nullified the endorsement.

"As exceptional as a candidate as Sue is, the Libertarian Party of Minnesota will not endorse a candidate in the Republican primaries, or a Republican for the general election," Brennise said.

Jeffers sought the Republican endorsement at the GOP Party's state convention a few weeks ago. A bar owner in Minneapolis, she has criticized Pawlenty for his support of increased state spending and a Twins ballpark plan.

The Democrats endorsed Attorney General Mike Hatch for governor.
