Missing Student's Body Found
St. Cloud, Minn. (WCCO) ―
The body of missing St. Cloud State University student Scot Radel was found in the Mississippi River Wednesday afternoon, St. Cloud Police said.
Allan Radel, the student's father, confirmed the finding to WCCO-TV but declined to speak further.
Dave Phillips of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department said, "(It was) very, very emotional. There was relief and that's coupled with sadness."
Radel was found by underwater sonar cameras in about 11 feet of water about 25 feet south of a railroad bridge, police said.
"We have children too and quite honestly, we deal with families in tragic situations on a regular basis, but I still can't imagine what it would be like to lose my own child," Phillips said.
Two private companies donated cameras and technicians to go to St. Cloud and help with the search.
At this time, police do not suspect foul play in Radel's death since he was found with his wallet in his pocket, money in his wallet, his cell phone and his wristwatch.
His body was recovered by the Stearns County Sheriff's Office Dive Team. Authorities believe an autopsy will be performed Thursday at the Anoka County Medical Examiner's office.
Radel, 21, was last seen on Feb. 2, when he left a St. Cloud, Minn. bar. His white baseball cap was found in the Mississippi River nearly two weeks after he disappeared.
Now that authorities have found Radel, they still have many questions about how he ended up in the river.
Authorities had resumed their search of the Mississippi River Wednesday. It had been called off temporarily due to hazardous ice conditions.
