Engineers: Lanesboro Dam Damaged By Flood

LANESBORO, Minn. (AP) ― An engineering firm has concluded that Lanesboro's 140-year-old dam was damaged by flooding last June. And it says immediate repairs are required.

The southeastern Minnesota city hired Bonestroo Engineers to assess the hydroelectric dam in October, after workers noticed that the dam's scouring hole had deepened after the flood. To get federal aid, the city has to prove the damage was from the flood.

While some of the damage was normal wear and tear, City Administrator Bobbie Jo Vickerman says, the engineers were able to prove that some damage was from the flooding.

She says they think there's no imminent danger of collapse, but they do need to make the repairs, which would cost $915,000. They also hope to find another $500,000 for automatic flood gates.
