Wounded Iraq Vet's Home Gets A Makeover

(WCCO) Kyle Anderson was a state wrestling champ. 4 years ago, an explosion in Iraq left him badly hurt. Now, Anderson is back on his feet and learning how to talk again.

The generosity of Anderson's neighbors would leave anyone speechless.

The project started out as a kitchen renovation, and expanded to much more. The living room used to be his dad's bedroom. It's now a luxurious living room, complete with a fireplace and new furniture.

The kitchen has updated stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors. The old dining room area is now a rec room with a pool table.

The home also has some special touches, like a leveled back deck, so Kyle can move around.

And there's a special door bell, complete with strobe lights. Kyle is hard of hearing after his injuries.

The bathroom was also made over. It includes the U.S. Marine motto, "Semper Fidelis," on the shower stall. The room is also going to be easy to clean.

"Someone came in and did a clear coat over the bathroom. Appliances and the toilets, so we don't have to scrub 'em like we used to," explained Kyle's dad, Timothy Anderson.

Kyle is excited. And so is his Dad.

This remodeling project is called Operation Dream Makeover.

The Minnesota Builders Association and many other organizations spent about $280,000 on Anderson's home.

It's in Inver Grove Heights, and you can see it for yourself. A tour costs $5 as part of the Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase.
