Kids Find Handgun In Backpack In Eyota Culvert

EYOTA, Minn. (AP) ― Authorities in southeastern Minnesota say five children discovered a backpack with a handgun inside.

The Olmsted County sheriff's office says the children were bicycling in Eyota when they saw the backpack in a culvert and looked inside.

There was no indication in the report if the .380-caliber handgun was loaded. The backpack contained other items, which led deputies to the owner.

Investigators suspect the gun and other items were stolen from a garage in Eyota.

The case is under investigation.
