Kentucky Derby Favorite Bred By MN Native

FOXHOME, Minn. (AP) ― Minnesotans have an extra reason Saturday to root for Big Brown, the horse that's favored to win the Kentucky Derby.

Big Brown was bred and raised by Dr. Gary Knapp, a native of the small western Minnesota town of Foxhome.

Knapp sold Big Brown in 2006. The three-year-old is undefeated in three career starts, and his win the Florida Derby earned his position as 3-1 favorite to win Saturday's big race.

Knapp and his brothers, Jerry and Gordy, were raised on the family farm near Foxhome, which is about 10 miles west of Fergus Falls. They attended high school in Morris and graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture.
