Man Recalls Finding Pregnant Wife's Wrecked Car

ALBANY, Minn. (WCCO) ― Jennifer Huston of Sauk Center left church on Nov. 11 when she swerved her car on I-94 near Albany trying to avoid hitting a deer. The car rolled several times and she was thrown out.

She was taken to a hospital in Albany and had to be airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital.

Her husband was driving in a separate car and stumbled onto the crash scene.

"When I got to the scene, it was probably 10 minutes after she left," said Tim Huston. "I said to myself, 'God, please don't let that be Jen. I seen the car and I talked to the police officer and he said that it was my wife."

Jennifer was 8 months pregnant and had to have an emergency C-section. The baby died.

"I told her yesterday and she just kept going to sleep," said Tim. "I think she was closing her eyes on purpose because she didn't want to hear it anymore. In her heart I believe she knows."

Tim is a youth pastor at the family's church and said faith in God is getting them through this terrible time.

"I wouldn't be doing this interview -- I wouldn't be standing right now -- if it wasn't for God. There's nothing in my brain, in my heart and in my soul that tells me I would be where I am right now."

Jennifer is currently in the intensive care unit. She has a lot of internal injuries. Her spleen shattered and doctors had to remove it.

The family is hoping she will be moved out of ICU within the next few days.

In the last three years: Nearly 10,000 Minnesotans hit a deer. Eighteen drivers died. Safety experts say not to swerve to miss a deer, just hit the brakes and wear a seat belt.

The state also has a report on their Web site of how often deer-related crashes are in certain areas of Minnesota.
