Mich. Infant Home After Mpls. Hospital Stay

BESSEMER, Mich. (AP) ― An infant is back home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula following a seven-month stay at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.

The Daily Globe of Ironwood reports Cody Nelson Grotberg returned to Bessemer on Tuesday in time to celebrate his first birthday.

He was born July 15 with a posterior urethral valve and Down syndrome.

Cody's family was brokenhearted when Cody had to spend his first Christmas in the hospital. He'd been there since Dec. 4.

It was nothing but smiles when the ambulance doors opened on Tuesday.

Cody's mother, Amanda Nelson, carried her son into the house.

She said: "He's finally home," explaining to her 3-year-old daughter she was crying "happy tears."

Down syndrome is caused by the presence of an extra 21st chromosome.
