A Twin Cities mother said she's not blaming anyone for the deaths of both of her young daughters.
On Tuesday, 5-year-old Starriana Jensen and her 3-year-old sister, Sofia, were in an SUV that crashed into a dump truck in Independence, Minn. The crash also killed the girls' father and his grandmother.
On Monday night, the girls went to go stay at their grandmother's in Madison, Minn., with their father, Star Jensen. His grandmother needed a ride to the airport on Tuesday morning.
Onica Moore is the girls' mother. She talked with Star Jensen Tuesday morning while he was on his way to the airport. He told her had just been stopped for speeding.
"He wasn't upset," Moore said. "He didn't sound any different."
Moore couldn't get a hold of him for the rest of the day and when she came home around six on Tuesday night, she turned on the news.
"I saw just a glimpse of the vehicle and I then I heard that the little girl was airlifted to the hospital," Moore said. "Instantly, I got a feeling, I got shaky nervous and I was in tears."
When Moore talked to Star Jensen's mother, she said everything was fine and that Jensen's grandmother caught her flight. A half-hour later, she knew she was wrong.
"When it hit me, the medical examiner called me and asked me for identification for my babies," Moore said.
Moore said Star Jensen would never hurt his little girls and she's waiting to hear what police said caused him to cross the center line and crash head-on with the dump truck.
"I know that there's a that reason God took them from me," Moore said. "I don't know what that reason is. I haven't questioned him because he knows best."
A fund has been set up at Associated Bank to help the family.
