Who doesn't remember the ice cream man? It seems no matter what you were doing when the ice cream truck went by, you ran to go get money.
A local mother got nostalgic. She and her daughter thought it would be a refreshing memory back to the suburbs.
The familiar sounds of the ice cream truck can make you run out of a lake or stop playing.
"Cherry-banana split," said one little customer.
At a time when folks are losing jobs and tightening spending, 12-year-old Allie Saathoff and her mother Lisa Saathoff are taking a gamble on the Pink Cow Ice Cream truck.
"Cows kind of went with ice cream and pink is my favorite color," said Allie.
"I was just at a point where I was ready for a new challenge and we started researching. Who wouldn't want to have an ice cream truck?" said mom, Lisa.
They've only been in business since Memorial Day weekend, but things seem to be going well.
"People love that we have a friendly-family option. We have a smiling 12-year-old selling ice cream and I think that's what makes us a little different," said Lisa.
Selling ice cream is not easy.
"There's a lot of emptying and filling freezers, and stocking, and running to get inventory, and counting money and doing accounting," said Lisa.
And there are tricks to the trade.
"When you go into a neighborhood, it's slow at first because your music needs time to infiltrate the neighborhood. So, we always do cul-de-sacs and dead ends that we can find, first," said Lisa.
Right now they only sell in Burnsville and Lakeville and say all the work is worth it.
"We see kids on the side of the street just jumping up and down, waving their arms, they're all smiles, parents are asking when can be come back," said Lisa.
Daughter Allie added, "It's really just exciting to see everyone being excited about it."
And it's not the just kids who enjoy the ice cream truck.
"I remember listening to the music as a kid and you'd all go running out your front door with your money -- it feels like that now," said Denise Webber. "I just live down the street, I hear the music and I had to pull in."
Even the dogs get in on the action with frozen dog treats.
You can request the truck for an event like a party or baseball gathering. For more information call 952-898-3964.
