Dems To Tour Mpls. Hydroelectric Construction Site

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) ― Democratic state lawmakers and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak are touring a hydroelectric project under construction on the Mississippi River on Thursday.

The Lower Saint Anthony Falls hydroelectric project in Minneapolis is getting state money from a fund created to foster renewable energy. The project is expected to generate more than 63,000 megawatt-hours a year when it starts operating.

Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of next year.

Those viewing the work site include state Rep. Kate Knuth and Sen. Scott Dibble. They sponsored legislation to create renewable energy production incentive payments used to pay for the project.

The project is located at the Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam.
