2 Injured In NE Mpls. Home Invasion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Two people were injured in a home invasion in northeast Minneapolis Thursday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., police responded to a home on the 1100 block of Fifth Street Northeast.

Witnesses told police they saw two men dressed in what appeared to be a Haz-Mat suits force their way into the home. Moments later, a young woman fell down outside the back door and screamed before being dragged back into the house.

A witness told WCCO two men went to help and saw that the victims, a young man and woman, were covered in blood and what seemed like pepper spray or mace. As a neighbor comforted the victims the two men chased the attackers, who began removing their protective suits and dropping cash. Police arrested the assailants with the help of the men.

When officers entered the home, they also found a large marijuana growing operation, said Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia.

Garcia said two people who were inside the home at the time were injured, but Garcia didn't know how seriously they were hurt.

Police believe the victims of the attack left the hospital because they expected officers to find their marijuana growing operation. Investigators seized more than 100 plants, as well as methamphetamine and equipment to grow marijuana. Police don't believe it will be difficult to apprehend the couple.
