A group of Hmong farmers whose plots were severely damaged in storms late last week in Dakota County are asking for help.
About 100 Hmong farmers endured near-total losses from the high winds, hail and heavy rain that came through, leaving a two-mile path of damage.
Senator Mee Moua, a St. Paul Democrat, and Representative Dennis Ozment, a Rosemount Republican, met with officials at the Capitol on Monday to see what can be done.
Moua said many of the Hmong farmers don't have insurance.
Officials at the state office of the federal Farm Service Agency say farmers must register by August 15 to get money from a fund that's part of the new farm bill. Those who lost more than 50 percent are eligible.
A series of town hall meetings is being organized to spread word about the relief program.
