Woman Seriously Hurt In Apple Valley Hit-And-Run

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) ― A woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Apple Valley, Minn. Friday night.

Around 9:11 p.m., Joan Levasseur, 25, was crossing Cedar Avenue at its intersection with 153rd Street when she was hit in the northbound lane by a large vehicle.

The vehicle then left the scene without stopping.

"The only description that we have at this time is that it was a light-colored or tan SUV or a van," said Joan's sister-in-law, Lori LeVasseur.

Police said the vehicle, which may also have been a large car, may show fresh front end damage as a result of the accident.

The victim was brought to the Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minn. and was transferred with serious injuries to Hennepin County Medical Center.

On Saturday, a spokesperson at HCMC the victim is in critical condition.

"She has severe brain injuries from what we're being told at this time," said Lori. "She also sustained multiple fractures to both of her legs, her pelvis and also to her right hand."

The Apple Valley Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating.

"There's a lot of broken hearts that are asking somebody to come forward and tell us what they know," said Joan's step dad, Bob Boever. "Please, please."

Anyone with any information about the van or the incident is asked to call the Apple Valley Police Department at 952-953-2700.
