Breakout Of Garage Break-Ins At Downtown Condos

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Police in Minneapolis are warning people who live in downtown condos to be careful after a breakout of garage break-ins.

It's been happening more and more over the last few weeks. Some people are upset the safeguards people pay when they live downtown don't seem to be doing anything to stop it.

As new parents, Cassandra and Jason Glynn were proud to bring their new son, Max, home. However, what happened at their warehouse district condo last week has them a little worried.

"We assume living here with the amount of money we paid to move here and with the amount we pay for association fees we can live in a secure building," Cassandra Glynn said.

It was the day after Christmas, the couple walked to their car parked in the underground garage when they saw empty bike hangers and the lock cut in half.

Their two Trek road bikes were gone. Then they noticed the cage that held a bunch of other bikes was cut and a few of them were stolen too.

Police said it's happened at several downtown condos the same way, even though in most cases cameras are everywhere.

The problem is people aren't monitoring the cameras and most times the image isn't any good.

"It's frustrating that there's somebody out there that has such an utter lack of conscious that they can repeatedly do this to multiple buildings, " Jason Glynn said.

The Glynn's don't expect to get their bikes back or the $1,200 they cost. Its safety they're after now.

Police said besides bikes, other stuff is being stolen out of cars. They believe whoever is responsible is being let in by other people who live in these places or they're walking through quickly when a garage door is opened.

From the video, police said there's a guy with his face completely covered, which is making an arrest pretty difficult.
