When a small-town football team makes it to state they are pretty easy to find at the Metrodome. Fosston is no different.
The Greyhounds made it to the Prep Bowl for the first time in 2009. That meant four busloads of fans making a 275-mile trek from northwestern Minnesota to the dome.
"It's very exciting. It's very exciting for our team, our community, as you can see we have tons of support. For the most part everyone has been here. It's been great," said Fosston head coach's wife Pat Viken.
If Fosston has a super fan, it's Joann Papke.
"It's awesome. It's awesome. And we are all so proud," said Papke.
Fosston had a play-off game on Halloween and Joann dressed up as a football fairy. The team won that night and she has been wearing the get-up ever since.
"We won and everyone was like: you have to wear it again," said Papke. "I brought my crown. It travels well. And I have bubbles."
She's not alone in her excitement. Fans are hoping this first big trip to state is a sign of things to come.
"We would like to see this carry over into other sports and carry the tradition," said Fosston fan John Keller.
