Float Plane Flips While Landing On Lake Lizzie

(AP) A pilot and two passengers survived when a float plane flipped over while landing on Lake Lizzie in Otter Tail County Friday.

Mike McFeely of radio station KFGO in Moorhead and Fargo, N.D., was fishing on the lake at the time of the crash about 10:30 a.m. He said the pilot had a cut on his forehead but was calling friends afterwards to tell what had happened.

Sheriff's Deputy Deon Bredman said the 52-year-old pilot, Richard Springer of Fargo, escaped serious injury, as did his wife Terryl and a girl from Burnsville who also was in the plane.

Bredman said the pilot forgot to retract the landing gear and the plane flipped when it hit the water, coming to rest upside down. The three were in the water a short time before boaters picked them up.
