4 Taken To Hospital After Apartment Fire

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) ― Four people are being treated for smoke inhalation and dozens of people are without a place to live after fire spread through an apartment building in Burnsville, Minn. overnight.

The fire started around 12:45 a.m. at The Pines of Burnsville Complex at 1004 West Burnsville Parkway.

Fire damaged nearly 40 apartments. Four apartments sustained heavy fire damage and the rest have smoke and water damage.

Police officers, who were the first to respond to the fire, said they had to get a ladder from the building to help get people out. Several people were rescued from balconies, including a woman, whose apartment behind her had smoke coming form it.

The Red Cross is helping about 65 people until they can get back into their homes.

Authorities believe it will be several days before they will be able to safely turn back on utilities to the building.

Three adults were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and an infant was taken to Minneapolis Children's Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. Their conditions have not been released, but all were conscious and alert when they left the scene.

Authorities are searching for what caused the fire. The Bloomington and Savage Fire Departments helped out the Burnsville Fire Department.
