State officials say thousands of jobless Minnesotans will benefit from an extension on unemployment benefits President Bush signed into law last week.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development reports that unemployed workers in Minnesota who exhausted the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation that was authorized in July are eligible for an additional 20 weeks of extended benefits.
DEED Commissioner Dan McElroy says the extended benefits will also be available for people who exhaust regular state unemployment benefits before the end of March.

Unemployed Minnesotans can apply for the federal benefits online or by phone.
