A Wisconsin man and his son are hospitalized after the
son was trapped in a farm auger.
According to the Barron County Sheriff's Department, they received a call at
about 10 p.m. Friday about a person trapped in a farm auger.
When first responders arrived, they found 18-year-old Sean Klatt trapped in an
auger system with injuries to his lower body. His father, Michael Klatt, also
sustained injuries to a hand and arm after trying to rescue his son.
A neighbor of the family said one of the daughters, a sophomore in high
school, backed up the auger and applied tourniquets to both her dad and brother.
Both father and son were taken by ambulance to Barron
Hospital and then flown to St. Mary's
Hospital in Rochester,
Minn.
Both Sean and Michael were listed in fair condition on Monday night.
The neighbor also said on Tuesday morning that Sean
was undergoing surgery to try and save one of his legs. His father, Michael, who seriously
injured his hand in the auger accident, actually lost his other hand years ago
in another farm accident.
According to the neighbor, Michael and his wife
have six kids ranging in age for 5- to 18-years-old. Neighbors are helping out
by doing all the chores and taking care of the kids.
A fund has been set up at St.
Joseph's Catholic Church. Send payments to 827 E. LaSalle Ave., Barron, WI, 54812. You are asked to make checks
payable to the church and note Klatt Fundraiser on the check.
