A 41-year-old man died after falling off a golf cart near Hoy's Resort in Rice County.
Sheriff's officials say that Randy Dean Ronquist suffered a severe head injury and was unresponsive after falling off the golf cart on Friday night. He could not be revived at the scene.
According to Sgt. Dan Silkey with the Rice County Sheriff's Department, Ronquist was a passenger of the golf cart. The driver of the cart owned it as well.
The driver, a 47-year-old Richfield man, was arrested and was being held in Rice County on suspicion of fifth-degree driving under the influence and criminal vehicular homicide.
Silkey said there were four people on the cart at the time of the accident; one driver, one passenger and two people standing on the back bumper. The cart was on its way back to a camp site at Hoy's Resort after watching fireworks.
Authorities believe alcohol was a factor and that all four people on the cart had been drinking. Toxicology reports on Ronquist are pending as well as charges against the driver.
