Charges: Woman E-Mailed Herself Threats, Blamed Ex

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) ― A Medina, Minn. woman has been charged with faking threatening e-mails to herself and blaming her ex-husband.

According to charges filed in Dakota County, 33-year-old Martha Christine Lundell divorced her husband in February and asked for a restraining order against him in May.

Within a week of the restraining order filing, Lundell contacted police and reported receiving e-mails from her ex-husband she said were in violation of the restraining order.

She eventually said she received three e-mails from him that appeared to threaten her, her daughter, her divorce layer and the judge who presided over their divorce case.

She told Hennepin County authorities she thought her husband was threatening to hurt or kill her.

An investigator searched Lundell's computer and retrieved the threatening e-mails. After asking Lundell if she knew the password to her husband's e-mail account, it was determined the e-mails contained IP addresses indicating they had been sent from Lundell's own computer.

Lundell eventually admitted to writing the e-mails in question. She told investigators she did it because she didn't think she was given "proper attention in dealings with her ex-husband," according to the criminal complaint.

Lundell has been charged with felony perjury. She also faces gross misdemeanor charges of falsely reporting a crime.
