Several Adults Present In Student Drowning

MONTEVIDEO, Minn. (WCCO) ― Police and a local school district are calling the drowning death of a fourth grader on a field trip a tragic accident.

Eddie Ojers was a student at Montevideo's Sanford Middle Elementary school.

Last Friday as a reward for completing reading and math goals, Eddie and 88 other students were rewarded with a field trip to Kilowatt Community Center in Granite Falls.

Eddie was pulled from the bottom of the pool and never regained consciousness. Montevideo School Superintendent David Baukel said there was adequate supervision.

"We had 11 adults and two lifeguards at the pool site. The adults were a combination of parent volunteer, teacher assistants and teachers," said Baukel.

The autopsy is not complete.

Grief counselors were at the school Monday to help students and staff.
