Minn. Officials Push E-Filing For Taxes

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Tax time is here, and Minnesota officials are stressing the benefits of electronic filing.

The Department of Revenue will begin accepting individual tax returns on Friday. In all, the agency expects to process 2.5 million returns this tax season.

And if history is any guide, most of them will come in electronically. More than 70 percent of people e-file, the department says.

Revenue Commissioner Ward Einess says electronic filing cuts down on errors, maximizes filer deductions and speeds up refunds. Electronic filers typically get their refunds within five days, compared with nearly a month for paper returns.
