CBS
Update: On Feb. 4, 2009, congress voted to delay the scheduled Feb. 17, 2009 transition to digital television and decided to push it back four months to June 12, 2009. Lawmakers were worried that millions of Americans wouldn't be ready in time for the February date.
To help people with the transition to digital television, two assistance centers have opened in the Minneapolis to help people with the conversion.
They are primarily set up to provide community outreach and training to the Latino community. They are not set up to handle large volumes of technical questions or assistance.
On Wednesday, the Lao Assistance Center and the Main Street Project launched the Twin Cities' DTV Assistance Centers.
The Twin Cities is one of seven cities in the nation who are opening assistance centers marking the one-month countdown to the digital television transition.
Each of the two centers will help the Latino community with the conversion and act as hubs for information and technical support during the transition to digital television. The Twin Cities' Assistance Centers will be located at:
Lao Assistance Center
503 Irving Avenue North, Suite 100A
Minneapolis, MN 55405
(612) 374-4967
Main Street Project
2104 Stevens Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55405
(612) 879-7578
Viewers who use rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna for over-the-air television signals will need a converter box to continue getting a TV signal after Feb. 17.
