Wife, Deputy Husband Arrested After Drug Probe

(WCCO)

A nurse working for the Hennepin County Medical Center and her husband, a sheriff's deputy, have been arrested as part of a probe of the theft of narcotics from the Hennepin County Jail.

On Tuesday, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office received a tip from a nurse working for HCMC that another nurse, 36-year-old Sarah Despiegelaere, was taking narcotics from the Hennepin County Jail.

Officials started an investigation into the allegations right away and Despiegelaere was arrested and booked in the Hennepin County Jail for Probable Cause Controlled Substance.

Police got a search warrant for her home in Burnsville, Minn. that led to the arrest of her husband, Steven Despiegelaere, a Hennepin County Sheriff's deputy.

Steven Despiegelaere was arrested and booked into the Dakota County Jail for Probable Cause Controlled Substance.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

Prosecutors have not filed formal charges against either of them.
