Search Continues For Apparent Drowning Victim

HAYWARD, Wis. (AP) ― Sawyer County sheriff's divers will search Lake Lac Courte Oreilles Wednesday for a man who apparently drowned while spearfishing.

Sheriff James Meier says divers will borrow underwater sonar equipment from St. Louis County, Minn., as they attempt to find the 44-year-old man.

The Department of Natural Resources is assisting in the search in what it says could be the state's first spearfishing-related fatality.

Sheriff's officials say the man was spearfishing with a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old Saturday when he fell into the lake. All three are residents of the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation.
